When I recently moved I ran into a small problem with the movers that I had arranged and they fell through. It was the 1st, noon and every place I called was booked. After the panic subsided, I luckily stumbled upon Northstar and thank god. I was concerned at first because they were a little pricy but they had movers there within the hour and when it was all said and done it was worth every penny.
The guys wrapped everything in pads and shrink wrap, boxed up anything that was loose. They were really nice, worked hard and got the job done well. I actually went to the ATM to get additional tip money for on top of what I initially had planned on tipping, no joke.
Highly recommend.
Residential
I highly recommend NorthStar Moving.
I’ve moved more than a few times, local and across country, and I’ve never worked with a moving company that has been so customer-service focused and easy to work with. They were very upfront with all associated costs and the team of movers provided great service, including packing and protecting.
If you use NorthStar in the LA area, ask if Gilberto, Rafael and Juan are available. I’ll be requesting them for my next move!
This was our 4th move with the company in as many years – and each time we have had an amazing experience. They are professional and organising the move was very easy. It was a painless process and that is a lot to be said for moving a 4 bedroom house. They always arrive on time, are extremely efficient and never damage anything !!! Price is always very competitive and we have recommended this company to many friends and they have all had the same experience. Give them a call – you won’t be disappointed !!!
Ron Cohen is the man! I moved from Los Angeles to Brooklyn, NY and it was the easiest move I’ve ever had–and incredibly affordable. The movers are great people and everything arrived on-time and perfectly intact. This company has no hidden fees and the billing is straight forward. I couldn’t recommend them more!
I labored long and hard and researched several different companies before deciding on North Star. Hopefully I can save you from having to do the same by letting you know that these guys are really great.
Booking the move was a snap and they were even able to accomodate a last minute schedule change.
My consultant Jason was very honest and helpful in suggesting ways that I could save money on my move by purchasing some supplies of my own.
On the day of the move the crew of three were friendly and fast. My move had two stops: my new apartment (boyfriend’s place) and storage. They were very gracious in accommodating a last minute decision to move some stuff out of my boyfriends to bring to storage.
The move cost exactly the amount that I had planned on spending and there were no hidden costs or surprises when it came time to pay.
I would definitely recommend North Star to any one in need and will certainly be calling on them when needed in the future!!
Paying for Northstar movers was money WELL spent. Ron Cohen came to my apartment and gave me a “not to exceed” rate based on the number of items I had. The movers showed up on time (actually a little earlier!) and were super professional througout the process. The pricing was exactly what Ron quoted and everything went smoothly the day of the move. I would highly recommend their services!
Another great find, thanks to Yelp!
As I was preparing for my cross country move from Los Angeles to New York, I was stressing out about what moving company to use to haul all the contents of my 1 bedroom apartment. After all, I had heard so many horror stories about how people were quoted one price, and ended up paying like 3 times as much after the move. Then I came across NorthStar Moving on Yelp, and decided to agree to do the consultation after reading all the positive reviews to get myself an estimate.
I informed them from the beginning that although I needed the pick up on March 30th, I wasn’t going to fly to NY until April 5th, and so I couldn’t receive the delivery until after the 5th. They were completely accommodating, and pushed back my delivery window to be between April 6-12. Furthermore, I didn’t have a destination address in NY when my stuff was picked up, but they didn’t make a big deal out of it at all. They just asked that I either email it to them or let the driver know when they call me a day before the delivery what the address is. 2 thumbs up for customer service already.
So it turns out there are 2 ways they can charge you for a long distance move…by weight (which they determine after they already pack your stuff and take it to their facility), or by a flat fee system they have that includes an estimated weight and a service fee. After getting my estimate for the flat fee system, I opted to get charged by weight, because I figured that it would ultimately cost me less. I was right. How did I find this out? I literally weighed every single box/furniture I owned by either putting it on my bathroom scale, or by carrying it on the bathroom scale and deducting my weight from it.
I did this, not because I’m OCD and have too much time on my hands, but because people try to take advantage of me and overcharge me everywhere I go. I have gotten into countless shouting matches with cab drivers who try to long haul me everywhere from LA to NY to Vegas. They must think, “Hmmm, asian girl probably has no sense of directions…after all, have you seen how they drive??” and try to always take the long way and charge me more. So for this move, I wanted to be cautious and be extremely aware of what ballpark figure to expect when they weighed my stuff. Turned out I had nothing to worry about, because the final weight was in the range of what I expected it to be.
On the day of the move, 4 people came, and literally from the minute they walked in the door, they were on top of it. They wasted no time, with each person getting right to work on their respective duties. I never knew furniture could get disassembled, wrapped in blankets, and taped up so fast. After we went over the inventory inside my apartment, they proceeded to load up the moving van. The movers were in and out of my apartment in 90 minutes flat. CRAZY FAST!!
Not only were they super quick when picking up from my apartment in LA, but they were just as great when they delivered the stuff in NY. I ended up putting my stuff in a storage unit, and even the guy working at the storage was like, “Wow, I have to admit, these guys work so fast…they’re good.” I’m sure the guys at the storage facility come across plenty of movers, and for them to be impressed, it goes to show how great the guys at NorthStar Moving were.
Everyone I came across at NorthStar Moving were super friendly, efficient, accommodating, and just overall awesome guys who make you feel comfortable with something as stressful as a move. I would absolutely use them again if I move, and would recommend them to anyone looking to do a long distance move.

I have to agree with everyone who left four stars. Ron came a week before the move and gave us a quote to move from Glendale to Sherman Oaks. He even advised us on how to arrange to move as economical as possible. This quote was several times less than what we paid to move from Santa Barbara to Glendale (that company ripped us and gave me PMSD – Post Movers Stress Disorder).
Four men showed up the following Saturday on time. They worked quickly and hard – my mom has a lot of stuff and it took about three hours just to load the truck. It was a full days job.
They were all very professional and friendly. Ron contacted me several days later to check that everything went ok.
This company made a big difference for my mom, who is 85 and very high strung. I can’t say enough good things about them!
I moved from NoHo to WeHo 2 weeks ago and NorthStar helped me moving.
Jason is my contact person and he arranged my last minute request. Fast and easy. He even called 2 days after my moving and asked about my feedback!
On the moving day, NorthStar sent 5 people, again they rocked out with 5 PEOPLE to move my one-bedroom apartment. Imagine how fast it went. I was so happily shocked. It took them about 30 mins to clear out from my old apartment and about 15 mins to move my stuff in to my new place.
The moving team was led by Benjamin, he and his team(Juan, Martin, Jose and Oscar) are just purely awesome. Very efficient and handled my stuff very carefully.
You guys KICK ASS!!!
