Overall a very good experience. I was given a quote online but they charge by weight with a minimum. They transport your order with other loads so they are only able to give you a 3 day window but they give you a call 1 day earlier to give you notice. The whole move cost 2100 based on our load weight of approximately 2500. This came out lower than the quote that was given to us for a flat rate based on a national carrier so we were happy. The movers came promptly with 2 guys, they disassembled the large furniture, taped our boxes (of course charged us for the materials), and wrapped the large furniture and electronics in padding/blankets. They were able to deliver within the estimated window. Upon delivery they made sure we had all our boxes, reassembled the furniture and arranged it how we wanted it. Would recommend and use again.
Long Distance Move
Moving is among the most nerve wrecking things for most people and my nerves were definitely frazzled during my recent move from Los Angeles to Ann Arbor. After contacting over 20 companies, I went with NorthStar with a bit of hesitation because despite their excellent rating, most of the reviews were for local moves. Luckily for me, I could not have asked for a better experience. Every contact I had with someone at NorthStar was excellent. Be it Ron who did the estimate, or customer service via phone, or the guys who picked up my stuff and the ones who delivered my stuff, the communication and service were thorough, quick, and professional. I honestly cannot think of anything they could have done better. Oh, and their rate is very competitive too.

NorthStar did a fantastic job on our cross-country move, which involved moving all our worldly possessions from Santa Monica to Austin. Every single person I interacted with at the company was friendly, polite, and helpful. Our moving logistics were handled by Ron, who was good-humored, accommodating, and always very quick to respond my questions via e-mail. He came over to take a look at the items we were moving, and was very clear about how to prepare for the move as well as what limitations they had (no liquids that were unsealed/open, like my multi-gallon containers of soy sauce).
On moving day, a team of four movers showed up on time and completed the job in about 6.5 hours. They were quick, efficient, courteous, and hard-working. Just as importantly, they were very careful about protecting our stuff, ensuring that each and every item was adequately protected. We especially appreciated the care given to our 3D printer.
The move itself was pretty organized. We had something like 111 boxes/items, and they kept everything numbered and notated so that when those 111 boxes showed up at my new house in Austin four days later, I knew where each of them went.

Northstar is a FANTASTIC moving company. My sister and bro-in-law recommended them after they moved their 5 bedroom house across the country. I also did a cross country move and Northstar did an AMAZING job. They charged me 25% less than the national movers quoted me. The guys in LA were great – they were courteous and packed my things with care. The company communicated with me the entire journey across country and they delivered my things within the agreed upon window. The guys in Florida were also great. Nothing was broken or missing and the final bill was exactly what we agreed upon. These guys deliver on their promises. They are highly professional and they made this move painless and stress free. I used NorthStar to move from Los Angeles to Houston in May, and they were wonderful. Their estimate was very close to the actual price. They moved everything from my apartment and my storage unit into the the moving truck within a few hours; these guys work fast, but they were very careful. It took about 2 weeks for my belongings to be delivered, but absolutely nothing was missing or broken…and I had tons of breakables in the boxes. They were on time, very professional, and very friendly. I trust this company and would definitely use them again.

Thanks to NorthStar for making a difficult long-distance move (Southern California to Oregon) pleasant and as easy as possible. Everyone from the office staff to the driver and the movers were friendly and professional. The only thing I would do differently is to buy more boxes at their Chatsworth facility — the price was good and the sizes were very useful. Thanks to everyone!
I actually got quotes and researched over 10 moving companies to move me from LA to Washington DC. Although NorthStar was not the least expensive, upon checking out other reviews sometimes you “get what you paid for”….and simply picking the least expensive company is not something I wanted to chance for all of my home furnishings. The Rep who I met with was extremely professionals as were the team of four packers who showed up when they said they would and worked for four hours straight and were extremely thorough in the packing and professionalism. They gave me a 10 window for the delivery of my move but actually went coast to coast in just three days – a pleasant surprise! After unpacking everything, there was no damage and everything arrived safe and sound!
