Used Northstar today. Movers were on time, friendly, respectful, willing to do whatever I needed to get the job done. Daffnis and his crew were great. I highly recommend Northstar to anyone looking for a reliable moving company.
I called a few places before calling North Star, and the people where mean and really didn’t want to help. Once I called North Star, they where great. If you get a change Kat Alexander at the moving company, was great, helped me out with everything. I really didn’t know what I was doing but she was there to help me out. Then I needed to change the date and Jason Orosco took care of me in a min. Great work team. Then on moving day the guys came and packed it up so quickly. They where amazing, I know I couldn’t of done it with out them. Once we got to are new place they starting unloading the truck, and putting the beds together and helping me placing everything where it should be. I had no problem unpacking our stuff. I am telling all of my friends and family about North Star, great team, great work, and great company all around. Thank you guys so much, Hats off to you guys….. The Collins Family.
I moved two times in the past five months, and Northstar has made both moves go much more smoothly than I expected. We were dealing with the contents of a (very full) three-bedroom home and LOTS of kids’ toys and junk. The moving crew arrived on-time and were very courteous and professional. They scooped up everything (neatly, of course), packed them on the truck, and unloaded at the destination without missing a beat. Everyone that I met or spoke to– from the first phone call, to the person who came to our home to give an estimate, to the movers– was very pleasant and helpful. Although I didn’t do much comparison shopping, I think the pricing is competitive. Someone came out to our home to give a not-to-exceed price. I had another moving company come out to give an estimate the next day, and they quoted me a higher price than Northstar (and it wasn’t a not-to-exceed, which means it could have been even higher after the actual move)! Naturally, I went with Northstar. For both moves, they finished the jobs in shorter time than estimated! If friends and family asked me for moving company recommendations, I would tell them Northstar.
Northstar sent four men with one van for my move. They arrived on time at 8:30a.m. and worked very hard until about 7 p.m. with only one short break for coffee and then another for a late lunch that I went and got for them, because they wanted to keep working. Everything was packed or wrapped carefully and arrived in good condition. The price was very reasonable, and less than half the original quote, which happened because I was able to move the goods into my new house 5 miles away the same day I moved out of the old one, instead of having to put everything in storage as I had expected to do.
Now that I’m old, there are things I’ll never do again: take final exams, hear “OK Computer” for the first time, or use a fake ID. Also on that list: move my own stuff.

So I researched different moving companies and called around for quotes for my move from San Jose to San Francisco. I was already anxious about hiring someone else to move my crap (I mean, my precious belongings)–it didn’t help to read a bazillion stories about broken lamps and people’s boxes being held for ransom. So I checked Yelp and the BBB to find movers who wouldn’t scam me.

NorthStar didn’t quote me the lowest rate (that came from a sketchy company with a low BBB rating and an employee who kept calling me even after I said I wasn’t interested), but they had solid reviews and the guy on the phone answered all my questions. He gave me a price range for a three-person crew to move my stuff, and we scheduled a time window for them to arrive.

The time window was 12-6, which seems like a long time to be waiting. But I got a call the night before my move asking if I wanted to move in the morning instead. I did, so at 8 the three movers were there to pick up my boxes.

They beat me to my new apartment, unloaded my things quickly, and were generally courteous and professional. I paid by credit card but tipped in cash, and the price was still within the range I’d been quoted. The whole thing took less than 3 hours, even with the drive.

If I move again, I’ll call NorthStar for sure.
I just used NorthStar to move 1 bedroom apartments from Hollywood to Santa Monica; they did an absolutely outstanding job for a very reasonable price and I would recommend them to my own mother.

Kat from NorthStar called me within an hour of submitting a request for a quote online.  Kat answered all my questions, was upfront about their rates and charges (which are very reasonable,), and genuinely seemed to care that I understood and was comfortable with the process.  On very short notice Kat had a team and a truck together reserved for the same week for the day I wanted. Awesome.

The crew leader Jimmy called me the morning of the move to give me a better idea of when they would show up; very helpful.

Positives:
Very careful with furniture / things – they extensively wrap furniture with their own moving blankets (free); courteous and polite movers; GREAT attitude (no complaining about lugging up four flights of stairs, they were always smiling); carefully packed my barware and art (and didn’t force unnecessary bubble wrap etc. on me); just great guys.

Negatives:
NONE!

Kat called me again after the move to make sure everything went smoothly and that I was completely satisfied. Through the entire process, I felt that everyone from NorthStar cared that I was happy and that the job was done right.  Use these movers
This outfit is as good as it gets. They were very professional, organized, careful and honest. They try very hard to earn the customer’s confidence and it shows. I would recommend them without any hesitation.
My wife and I briefly entertained the idea of moving ourselves… We are glad we did not! After watching NorthStar move us in such a quick and efficient manor, we are glad that we had them do the job! Jose and his crew were excellent! Cannot recommend this group enough for their speed, efficiency, and care. We will use them again if we move.
I used North Star Moving for two moves during the month of September.  Both were local moves, and both moves went perfectly.  I was completely satisfied, and I am writing my first Yelp review to recommend North Star to others considering a move.
I hate moving.  I have way too much stuff that I swear multiplied as it was packed.  I have an eclectic combination of antique dressers, Ikea furniture, books, cooking gadgets, electronics, and shoes and, of course, knickknacks from every meaningful or insignificant event of my life.  Oh, and three very spoiled cats.  You put all that together, throw in a heat wave, add a new home that is only partially ready for move in, and even a move of six miles is a recipe for disaster.
Enter North Star to save the day.  I found them while putting in magazine change of address notices on http://Moving.com.  For a lark, I asked for moving quotes.  I received one from North Star and one from another company with a horrible BBB rating.  I started researching North Star, which led me to Yelp, and the positive reviews here encouraged me to give them a try.  Oh, and let me just say I was not asked to write a review by anyone at North Star, nor did I receive any kind of a discount for finding them on Yelp, I guess cause I actually found them onhttp://Moving.com.
Victoria was the person that booked my moves.  She was responsive, polite, and explained everything to me clearly.  She was able to schedule both of my moves for the (weekend!) days I wanted with only a few days lead time.  She made that process very easy for me.
Cesar was the person that notified me when to expect the movers.  He called a couple of days before each move and then when they were on their way to let me know when to expect them.  One of my moves was Saturday afternoon, the other was Sunday morning.  He is also the person that made it possible that I had the same team of three movers for both moves.
That team consisted of Elias, Benancio and Ignacio.  They were great.  They worked a half day the first move, and a full day the second.  Both moves involved loading the truck at the apartment, moving to the house and also moving items to a storage facility.  The first day was hot; the second move day was record breaking HOT!
Neither move was a “take everything and go” kind of move, no, they were both “take this – leave that – that goes to storage – that goes to the house – that goes in the garage” kind of move.  It was probably the worst kind of move for the guys doing the moving.  And, they did this kind of moving while I moved three spoiled, stressed out cats from room to room, baiting them with treats, so they could be secured while the movers had the doors open!
The guys handled all the chaos easily.  They were polite, good humored, and never once seemed frustrated or upset with anything.  They had great attitudes!  Their good nature calmed me.
They worked as a true team.  Elias was the one that took apart and put together furniture.  He also was the paperwork guy, complete with a credit card device in his bag for end of the day charges.  Ignacio was the one that wrapped my furniture and TV’s with blankets and tape, just like in the video on their website.  And Benancio amazed me with his strength:  I’d say “that’s heavy” and he’d lift it with no trouble and add another box on top of it.
Actually, they were all strong and very hard workers.  They had to be told to take a break, to drink some water.  They just kept moving, looking for the next thing to do.  But they worked SMART, too, not just hard.  They used every inch of the truck to be sure everything got in it.  They loaded up dollies at the storage space taller than they were to make the most of each elevator trip.  They grabbed lunch on the way to the storage unit, and ate it while driving to maximize their working time.
Elias, Benancio and Ignacio worked very well together.  Without a lot of discussion, they moved from task to task.  It was all very seamless, and made what could’ve been a couple of nightmare moves, pretty easy and successful.
I don’t plan on moving again soon, maybe not EVER, but if you’re looking for movers to make your local move painless, I strongly suggest you call North Star Moving, and ask for Victoria.  If you’re really lucky, maybe they’ll send Elias, Benancio and Ignacio.
