The Boy Scouts of America were at it again with their annual ‘Scouting For Food’ Food Drive in November. The event is held in six different counties in the San Francisco Bay Area and donates the collections to eight different food banks throughout those counties.

Thanks to Gentle Giant Moving Company – San Francisco, Chipman Relocation & Logistics, and NorthStar Moving – San Francisco for all of your hard work transporting the donations!

NorthStar Moving – San Francisco, a full-service moving and storage company based in California, joined Move For Hunger’s network in 2018. Since joining, they’ve transported over 30,500lbs, equalling more than 25,000 meals, to food banks in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Hunger Fighting Hero is awarded by Move for Hunger to organizations that take part in food donations efforts, from hosting a food drive to assisting in one. In addition to hosting our annual food drive, we are called from time to time to assist in transporting food donations. We received this awards after we picked up 14,926 pounds of food (which equates to 12,438 meals!) from the Boy Scouts annual food drive in the bay area, and delivered it to the Alameda County Community Bank in November 2021. Read more about it and about our other projects with Move for Hunger on our community page.

The Hunger Fighting Hero is awarded by Move for Hunger to organizations that host a successful event to fight hunger in their area. NorthStar Moving’s seventh annual “Let’s Send Hunger Packing” summer food drive raised food and monetary donations to provide 33,924 meals to feed hungry children in Los Angeles County. Over seven years, the drive has raised a total of approximately 134,124 meals.

From June 3-14, Northstar Moving encouraged people to drop off non-perishable food at Northstar Moving Company’s headquarters and other locations in Los Angeles. Nearly 900 lbs. of food was collected and delivered to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. That’s enough to provide 740 meals!

“I am so proud of and inspired by our team and the community,” said NorthStar Moving Co-Founder, Laura McHolm. “We had a fantastic group of individuals and organizations support us this year, including Groundwork Coffee. We are so grateful for their support and to everyone who helped make a difference in the lives of hungry children throughout the LA region. Please remember, this is something all of us can do to make a difference in a hungry child’s life; just donate to your local food bank, it’s as easy as a click of a button.”

Each month, we highlight one of the moving companies in our network for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. We are excited to announce that NorthStar Moving Company has been named our Mover of the Month for April 2019!

NorthStar Moving has been helping us reduce food waste in California for nearly 10 years, and they recently made two of their biggest rescues to date. In late March, NorthStar’s crew in Los Angeles recovered nearly 2,800 lbs. of bagels, chips, bananas, and other non-perishable food/beverages from the LA Marathon. Just two weeks later, the San Francisco branch rescued nearly 15,000 lbs. of bananas, snack, bottled water, and sports drinks from the Rock ‘n’ Roll SF Half-Marathon.

According to NorthStar Moving’s co-founder, Laura McHolm, the company has a responsibility to use its resources to help others whenever possible.

During the 2019 California Moving and Storage Association Convention (CMSA) that was held in San Diego, NorthStar Moving was awarded a Certificate of Achievement by Move for Hunger. They wrote to us: “”Every year at state and national moving industry conferences we give out awards to those who go above and beyond with their dedication to the cause. We chose Northstar Moving not only because of the amount of food collected, but also for the willingness to help with larger pick-ups like the LA Marathon and Rock n Roll San Francisco Half Marathon. We realize that you are donating your time, staff and equipment for these pick-ups and are very appreciative for your help to ensure these large amounts of food go to those in need in the local community.”

Each month, Move for Hunger highlights one of the moving companies in their network for their commitment to fighting hunger in their community. We are honored that NorthStar Moving Company has been named our Mover of the Month for April 2019.

  • April 2019 mover of the month: NorthStar Moving

Northstar Moving Company is no stranger to the fight against hunger. In fact, the leading eco-luxury mover in California is more like a veteran, because they have just completed their 6th annual Let’s Send Hunger Packing food drive!

For the entire month of July, members of the Chatsworth, CA community were encouraged to drop off non-perishable food at Northstar Moving Company’s headquarters. By the end of the month, more than 680 lbs. of food had been donated and delivered to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. That’s the equivalent of 560 meals!

The Hunger Fighting Hero is awarded to organizations that host a successful event to fight hunger in their area. NorthStar Moving’s second annual “Let’s Send Hunger Packing” food drive in partnership with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage raised 8,109 pounds of food to feed hungry children in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. The overwhelming volume of food collected and the awareness the company raised for hunger earned NorthStar Moving the award.

The saying “You Can Never Have Too Much of a Good Thing” can be applied to almost anything, but is especially true in the case of food drives. In a country where 42 million people are food insecure, food drives help to relieve the pressure on food banks and pantries to provide enough sustenance for the millions of grumbling stomachs across the nation.

NorthStar Moving® Company and Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Greater Los Angeles and Orange County are well aware of the relief food drives can provide and have been helping to fight hunger for FIVE summers now with their annual “Let’s Send Hunger Packing” food drive. The food drive, which took place from May 22-June 16 helped to raise more than 6,368 pounds of food — enough to provide  5,300 meals!
