Welcome the jungle into your home with exotic plants like the Monstera deliciosa, and the hoya plant. The Monstera deliciosa is a flowering plant native to tropical rainforests, it is also known as the fruit salad plant because you can eat its leaves and fruit! The Hoya plant is a vine or hanging plant that comes in almost every color of the rainbow.

Spruce up the scenery with decorative plants like the Air plant or the Staghorn Fern.  Air plants don’t need soil to grow! They gather their nutrients from dust and need very little water. They’re a great way to bring the outdoors indoors while still staying green. Staghorn Ferns get their name from the uncanny resemblance of their fronds to stag horns. They make great additions to any home. You can mount them on your wall and just watch them grow, grow, grow!

When it comes to plants on the go or should I say “plants on the grow”, none do it better than the Firestick plant and the Bamboo plant. The Firestick plant, found throughout Africa, requires little water and can be used to treat a number of things such as cough and earache! Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world and provides many uses in the area of medicine, textile, and even music! Take a look at Buzzfeed’s list of other fun plants for your home.

Give cool a whole new meaning with a hydroponic plant. These plants are self-sustaining and don’t need soil to grow. You can grow vegetables of all kinds hydroponically and enjoy your very own home grown food. Travel back in time to the 80’s and adopt a Chia Pet. They use very little water and will make great decorations and toys. Grow like a pro; the fashionistas over at Marie Claire have plenty of tips and tricks for caring for other cool houseplants.

Looking to improve indoor air quality? The geniuses over at NASA can help! Plants such as Aloe Vera and Peace Lilies make great additions to any home for several reasons. Aloe Vera can be used for medicinal purposes as well as to absorb certain harmful chemicals found in cleaners such as benzene.  Peace lilies, take those icky mold spores, absorb them, and turn them into food for the plant!

Worried about the amount of water you’ll be using on your household plants? Worry no more! Succulents are the way to go. They are known for their ability to store large amounts of water. Not only are they one of the most sustainable plants out there, but they also look really cool and can thrive almost anywhere. Save the most water with a self watering planter.
