Martin Luther King Day, Jr. Day is right around the corner! There’s no better way to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. than volunteering in your community. Los Angeles has numerous organizations dedicated to worthy causes. You can make a positive contribution to your community, just as Martin Luther King, Jr. did. A small effort goes a long way! Here are a few ways you can help on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day:
Donate
Donating your time and food to soup kitchens and local food banks is a great way to give back on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Some of my favorite places to help out are the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Donate an hour of your time, bring in a can, or organize a whole food drive!
Mentor Youth
Martin Luther King, Jr. believed in equality for all future generations. Today, there are many organizations where you can have an impact on the lives of our children and youth in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Whether it’s one-on-one basketball or helping with a child with homework, pledge to spend a Saturday afternoon mentoring youth in your community.
Support Disaster Relief
People in your immediate community are not the only ones in need of assistance. In light of recent natural disasters, many disaster relief organizations are in dire need of help. Remember Martin Luther King, Jr. by making a difference in the lives of others.
Keep Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Dream Alive
Another way to volunteer on this special day is to volunteer to honor Martin Luther King’s favorite things. With many different Los Angeles celebrations, you can honor Martin Luther King, Jr. by celebrating friendship and equality. When you’ve been thoroughly inspired, why not volunteer to help spread Martin Luther King, Jr.’s message?
