We love movies here in Los Angeles. If you’ve ever been to the City of Angels then you know that in most parts of the city you can’t drive too far without running into a movie theater. It’s no surprise that movies are major market in LA, after all Hollywood is the movie capital of the world. Pack up the family and get moving to the movies!
Movies: Family Films
- Brrrr…the penguins are back! Penguins of Madagascar hits theaters November 26. It is the latest installment in the Madagascar series and is sure to be a bundle of laughs. Join Skipper and his crew as they venture across the globe to take down the evil Dr. Octavius.
- Annie arrives in theaters December 19th. It is a remake of the 1982 film of the same name. Instead of being set in 1930s New York, the movie is given an upgrade and set in present day New York. The film stars Quvenzhané Wallis as the title character and Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz as Will Stacks and Miss Hannigan.
- Be careful what you wish for this winter. Disney’s new musical, Into the Woods, opens December 25. It is the story of a baker and his wife who journey into the woods to find the witch who cursed them. Along the way they meet Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, and other fairytale characters.
- Paddington is set to release Jan 16, 2015. The movie follows the adventures of a Peruvian bear that travels to London to see what life in the city is like for a typical Londoner. It is produced by David Heyman, the executive producer for all eight Harry Potter films, so we can expect to see some beary magical animation!
Movies: Winter Blockbusters
- Another Disney hit. Big Hero 6 opened November 7 and has been the number 1 movie for the past two weeks. It takes place in the futuristic town of San Fransokyo. It is about a 14-year-old genius and his brother’s robot Baymax.
Along with their friends they must fight to uncover the truth behind a masked villain’s plan and save the city.
- Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar also opened November 7. If you’ve seen any of his other movies such as the Batman trilogy or Inception then you know you can expect to have your mind blown. Interstellar is the story of two families of scientists and their journey to the edge of the universe. As the earth quickly diminishes around them, they must hurry to find a new world for humans to inhabit before it’s too late.
- The girl on fire returns to theaters November 21. I’m talking about the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 of course. Join Katniss on her mission to take down the capital and rescue Peeta as she battles her way through the districts of Panem.
- The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies comes out December 17. It is the third and final film in the Hobbit series. Watch as Bilbo, Thorin, Tauriel and Legolas fight for the salvation of Middle-earth against Smaug, the Orcs and Sauron the Necromancer. Peter Jackson is known for his ability to seamlessly blend fantasy and reality. Expect to be taken on a journey there and back again!
