There’s always something going on in LA. The musical has a long standing tradition of traveling from city to city. Los Angeles, being one of the entertainment capitals of the world, continues to be a stop for most musicals. We’ve seen some of the world’s greatest such as The Lion King, Cats and Phantom of the Opera. It’s no surprise that this year we’d be hosting a few other award winning musicals. Take a look at what musicals are making their way downtown.
LA Musicals: Disney’s Beauty and the Beast
One of the most beloved Disney movies has been revived in the form of a musical. Arriving in December at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast musical comes with all the splendor and elegance of the movie. Spectacular colors and songs are just two of the many treats this musical has to offer. It takes the audience on a unforgettable ride through the human heart and shows us what it means to love.
LA Musicals: Wicked
Wicked is coming to the Pantages this December! It is the “untold story of the witches of Oz.” See Oz through whole new eyes as you journey through its mysteries and learn all about the magical land and its even more magical inhabitants. Wicked has won the Tony award for best scenic and costume design, and was even named the best musical of the decade by Entertainment Weekly!
LA Musicals: Memphis
Witness the birth of rock ‘n’ roll as you’re taken on an incredible adventure through the music industry circa 1950s Tennessee. Memphis is also coming to the Thousand Oaks civic plaza. It follows the lives of Felicia Farrell and Huey Calhoun as they struggle to make their interracial love survive in a time where the lines between black and white weren’t so blurred. Winner of the 2010 Tony award for best musical, Memphis features spectacular choreography, classic costumes and a soundtrack that’ll keep your feet bopping even after the show’s over.
