When is a holiday not actually a holiday? Well, when it’s St. Patrick’s Day! It’s not quite an official U.S.  Holiday, but we certainly celebrate it as it’s the most celebrated non-government holiday in our country! If you didn’t already know, St. Patrick’s Day is a day of green!  Everybody tries to wear at least a splash of green and many get together with friends for a party or head out to the St. Patrick’s Day parades!

I’ve got some great recipes you can make at home to celebrate and bring out the fun in St. Patrick’s Day!

First let’s start with food! My favorite thing to talk about, of course! Let’s be festive enough to bring out those green colors into our foods this St. Patrick’s Day!

Perfect hardy Potato and Leek soup! (photo by veganfest)

March is still a bit chilly this time of month, so how about trying to make a delicious potato and leek soup?  It’s a simple recipe that’s a great way to start off any meal! Plus the potato and leek mixed together creates a light green consistency and top it off with some parsley! Talk about a yummy start to St. Patrick’s Day!

For the main dish how about starting off with a yummy green creamy pesto pasta with a twist! To liven up add some tasty pistachios! Small touches like pistachios add extra green on St. Patrick’s Day.

Accompany with the awesome pesto pasta how about an herb and cheese scone. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! It’s an awesome pair with your St. Patrick’s Day pasta. Also, it’s Irish! The herb and cheese scone is one thing people in Ireland love to eat with their meal, plus the herbs brings out the color green for the St. Patrick’s Day theme we are going for!

For a tasty green drink, try skipping the green food coloring and go for a green healthy drink instead! Try a Kiwi Fruit beverage!

Have fun celebrating!

And remember, take the St. Patrick’s Day theme literally and make sure to serve your meal as green as possible with biodegradable utensils and plates.

Get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit by dressing both you and your food in green.
